Albuquerque Air Conditioning Service Can Help Keep Medicines Potent

An article on About.com suggested that most drugs should be stored at “controlled room temperature”, which averages approximately 77 degrees Fahrenheit. In the event the medicines need to be taken out of storage (to be transported, for instance), they can withstand temperatures of up to 86 degrees Fahrenheit, but only for a short period. The potency of medicines stored at either below or above the recommended temperatures can be adversely affected. For example, diabetics and heart disease patients should never take heat-damaged insulin or nitroglycerin, because these are potentially life-threatening. Common medications are no exception to the adverse effects of heat, either. Oftentimes, heat-damaged drugs are difficult to identify at first sight, and it may be too late to prevent disaster once they are taken in.
